Carnival Cruise Line Announces the Sale of 6 Cruise ships.

In an unexpected turn of events from the Largest Cruise Line, Carnival Corporation has shocked everyone with the announcement on Thursday that they will be selling 6 Cruise Ships. Carnival Corporation CEO Arnold Donald also stated “there are negotiations in place which could see more vessels exiting as well”.

It’s not unusual for Cruise companies to move older ships out of their fleet, as new ships enter. However, recent events have most likely accelerated that timeline. It’s no secret, Cruise lines have been struggling since the start of the pandemic. Carnival has stated that it was losing up to $500 million a month, while ships are docked and empty. The sale of these ships will help ease that burden.

Carnival Corporation has not yet released the names of the ships that will retire. Carnival owns Carnival Cruise Line, Holland America, Princess, P&O, Costa, AIDA, and Cunard. So, the current 6 ships retiring could be from any of the aforementioned Cruise Lines. We will be sure to provide an update once the list of ships is known.

It’s also possible we could see some of these ships turn up at another cruise line. Bahamas Paradise  previously purchased their 2 ships from Carnival. The Carnival Celebration became the Grand Celebration, and the Costa Classica became the Grand Classica….(see a pattern here….) So this might be an opportunity for the to expand their fleet. Bahamas Paradise is also one of the first cruise lines to resume sailing. Tentatively July 24th.
