Carnival Paradise Going to Havana Cuba!
After several months, Carnival Cruise Line is finally going to Cuba.
Carnival’s Sister Line, Fathom, Royal Caribbean made their announcement in December, as did Norwegian. Yesterday Carnival announced they have been finally been approved to offer cruises to Cuba.
The Carnival ship Paradise has been approved to sail to Cuba on select sailings, which will include a stop in the capital of Havana. The Paradise will start sailing to Cuba from Tampa Florida on June 29th. Sailings will include four and five night sailings and include an overnight stay in Havana. Five-night trips also will feature a stop in either Cozumel, Mexico or Key West.
While the Obama administration loosened restrictions on travel to Cuba in 2016, U.S. visitors still are limited in the activities they are allowed to do in the country by the terms of the USA’s five-decade-old embargo. The embargo specifies that activities fall within one of 12 approved categories. The categories include educational pursuits such as people-to-people exchanges.
A passport and Visa are required for travel to Cuba. No need to worry about the Visa, as Carnival will help take care of this for you. For a nominal charge of $75.00 per person, Carnival will provide you with the required Visa to use while you are on the island.
The only cruise vessel sailing from the USA to Cuba in 2016 was the 704-passenger Adonia. The ship flies the flag of Fathom, a little-known, one-ship brand launched in 2016 by Carnival’s parent company, industry giant Carnival Corp. (CCL).
Cuba, is a Caribbean island nation under communist rule, known for its white-sand beaches, rolling mountains, cigars and rum. Its colorful capital, Havana, features well-preserved Spanish colonial architecture within its 16th-century core, Old Havana, loomed over by the pre-revolutionary Capitolio. Salsa emanates from the city’s dance clubs and cabaret shows are performed at the famed Tropicana.
